It is with deep sadness that we bring the news that Leon Shaeffer has passed away. Leon left us on Saturday March 11th. He left a huge hole in the chapter and in our hearts.

 

Services will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home – Riverside Chapel, 900 Santa Fe, Hughson, CA on Saturday, March 25th at 3:30pm with a reception following at 5:30pm at The Double Tree Inn – Sonoma Room, 1150 9th Street, Modesto, CA. Free parking at the 9th Street Garage provides a walking bridge to the hotel.

 

Charitable donations can be made to the Leon Shaeffer Memorial Fund to support early education to introduce children to the joy of flying – Bank of the West, 134 Maag Avenue, Oakdale, CA 95361.

Oakdale Airport Open House 2015 is a success!

Oakdale Airport Open House is in progress and everyone is having a great time!  We've got lots of eager young aviators waiting for their airplane rides and lots of eager older aviators giving those rides.  We've got vintage cars,  hot rods, vintage airplanes and even a few vintage aviators on display today.

Turlock Airport Young Eagles Day

Todd Smith with the Turlock Airport dropped by our website to say they are having a Young Eagle's Event at the Turlock Airport this Saturday and would welcome any of our pilot members participation. They will provide breakfast and lunch.

Oakdale Municipal Airport Open House

A warm invitation goes out to you and your friends to come on out to Oakdale Airport October 4th from 9am to 2pm for Oakdale  Airport Open House and Appreciation Day. Attending will be the B-25 Old Glory and the NorCal Crosswinds formation team. Young Eagles flights will be flown through the day and tow plane rides for the little kids so bring the family for fun and food.

Michael Winston "Mike" Melvill is an Earthrounder and one of the test pilots for SpaceShipOne, the experimental spaceplane developed by Scaled Composites. Melvill piloted SpaceShipOne on its first flight past the edge of space on June 21, 2004, thus becoming the first "commercial" astronaut and the 434th person to go into space. SpaceShipOne was the first privately funded human spaceflight mission to reach space. Melville is also the sole or joint holder of nine FAI (Federation Aeronautique Internationale) aviation world records in various categories.

Airport Improvements Week 2

Work continued on the sprinkler system being installed between the EAA Chapter 90 ramp and the parallel taxiway at Oakdale Airport.  Final connections were made and the system pressure tested.  Once the system passed muster the pipes were buried and the dirt smothed over.

9:00am Breakfast - Optional

10:00am Safety Briefing - Mandatory

10:15am Spot Landing contest

12:00pm BBQ Lunch

$20 Entry fee includes BBQ Lunch

$5 Lunch for non-contestants

Videos of landings will be shown during lunch

1:30pm Presentation of trophies, chapter Precision Pilot plaque award

SPOT LANDING CONTEST RULES

  1. All contestants must attend safety briefing at 10am.
  2. Target line across runway will be marked with 6 inch tape.
  3. Line to be displaced at least 500 feet from runway threshold.
  4. Contestants are not to change flap settings after turn to final.
  5. Touchdown before line, contestant will be disqualified.
  6. Distance to be measured from target line to the first touchdown point with no bounce. Ctestant will thhen make a touch and go for second chance, however totat distance will be cumulative.
  7. Only two aircraft of similar performance allowed in traffic pattern at the same time.
  8. All transient aircraft have right of way.
  9. Judges decisions are final: NO WHINING!
  10. BE SAFE!  FLY THE AIRPLANE AT ALL TIMES!

Top two scores from each EAA club will be added together for bragging rights and EAA Pilot Precision Plaque.  See you there!

Carson's first airplane

Congratulations to Carson on the purchase of his first airplane!  He bought Curtis' Luscombe and is already making plans to polish it and spruce up the interior.  Carson plans to use his new plane for camping and local fun.
