The BBQ starts at noon. Hamburgers, hotdogs, various salads, desserts, drinks.

12:00pm. Hotdogs, burgers and the usual fixins plus desserts.

High Sierra Fly-In 2017 is coming!

October 18th - 22nd. Free dinner and fireworks Saturday night, free breakfast Sunday morning. Bonfires every night. Every type of aircraft you can imagine will be there, especially STOL. RV-friendly location on Flanagan Dry Lake between Pyramid Lake and Susanville.   Easy off-airport landing for all types of aircraft and pilots of all skill levels.

EAA Precision Pilot Contest

Spot landing contest and Power off landing contest.

Breakfast is available for $5 for anyone wishing to show up early!

Mandatory saftey briefing at 9:30AM for ALL participants.

Contest starts at 10:00am

Entry Fee: $20  INCLUDES LUNCH!  Or buy lunch for $5

Spot Landing Contest Rules:

1.  Airport is open - watch for arriving and departing aircraft.  You will be given another chance if transit aircraft interfere.

2. You do not have to be a member of EAA to participate.

3. EAA will be in charge of numbers, ground movements, and line up.

4. Three aircraft at a time competing.  The 2nd will be released when the first turns downwind.  Thrid airplane will be released when the first turns jbase leg.

5. Runway landing zone will be displaced 1000 feet for the contest.  2000 feet remain for roll-out.

6. Scoring: 1 point for each foot past the line, low score wins.  Score is best 2 out of 3 attempts.  Score is from where the mains are rolling on the ground.  Boucnes down't count until wheels are rolling solidly on runway.

7.  Landing short twice is an automatic DQ.  Short landings are thrown out.

8.  No flap changes once you cross the canal.

9. Get number, apply to aircraft, be ready to go when it is your group's turn.  Have fun and nail the landing!

Awards:  Closest landing to the line:  1st, 2nd, and 3rd place plaque.


Best power off landing contest rules:

1. Airport is open - watch for arriving and departing aircraft. You will be given another chance if transit aircraft interfere.

2. Climb to 1500 MSL abeam the wind tee, cut power to idle - NO ENGINE SHUTDOWNS PERMITTED.

3. No power adjustments except to clear the carb.

4. Landing must be in first 1/2 of the runway.

5.  Any flap positions and or slips approved.

6.  Number of spiral turns is at pilot discretion.

7.  Judges will assign a number from 1 to 10 based on their subjective opinion of the quality of the landing.

8. This contest is one time, one-shot only, just like in a real emergency.  You've only got one chance, make it count!

Awards: Best Power-Off Landing, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place plaque.

Gone West

It is with deep sadness that we bring the news that Leon Shaeffer has passed away. Leon left us on Saturday March 11th. He left a huge hole in the chapter and in our hearts.

 

Services will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home – Riverside Chapel, 900 Santa Fe, Hughson, CA on Saturday, March 25th at 3:30pm with a reception following at 5:30pm at The Double Tree Inn – Sonoma Room, 1150 9th Street, Modesto, CA. Free parking at the 9th Street Garage provides a walking bridge to the hotel.

 

Charitable donations can be made to the Leon Shaeffer Memorial Fund to support early education to introduce children to the joy of flying – Bank of the West, 134 Maag Avenue, Oakdale, CA 95361.
